THE FERNWOOD COMMUNITY and ARTS ASSOCIATION

Little Fernwood – the arts and culture hub at 1923 Fernwood Rd – has come back to life over the past few years. And just in time, as affordable, accessible arts and performance venues are disappearing quickly in Victoria, when we need them now more than ever. Live music, art openings, theatre connect us. And Little Fernwood makes Fernwood even more awesome and lively, and brings more customers to our business.

Thanks to the City of Victoria, to all of you who contributed during our December and January fundraisers, and to Hourigan’s Flooring for a discount and a great installation job, Little Fernwood now has new floors!  New floors in the Paul Phillips Hall, the Little Fernwood Gallery and the Store Front Studio. They look great. And best of all, because of the support of the City, the community and a small local business, we were able to get the new floors put in without having to raise the rental rates at Little Fernwood, keeping the space affordable and accessible for arts and culture events and community gatherings.

The Fernwood Community and Arts Association operates from a heritage building at 1921 & 1923 Fernwood Road. The building known as the Little Fernwood includes the Store Front Studio on the main floor, the Little Fernwood Gallery, and the Paul Phillips Hall, a small theatre space used to host performing arts shows, music concerts, workshops, community events and celebrations.

Groups using this building include Theatre Inconnu, the Pandora Arts Collective, and Cafe Sympatico, along with several community groups that use another space upstairs (entrance from Gladstone) known as the Little Gladstone Studio.

The Fernwood Community Association Land Use Committee (CALUC) plays an active role in Fernwood land use and development issues, acting as a liaison between the Fernwood community, developers, and the City of Victoria.
